What is SeoToolkit?
SeoToolkit is an SEO package for Umbraco CMS that provides essential SEO features like meta field management, XML sitemaps and robots.txt configuration out of the box. It was created to have a baseline across multiple projects regarding SEO. SEO is usually one of the last things to be added to a project and usually it is something that we don't really want to be working on. We rather work on cool functionalities, stuff that are actually useful for the clients. However, SEO is very important for a website and you wouldn't want your client's website to not be found in search engines or AI engines.
Hence, SeoToolkit was created. SeoToolkit automatically adds various SEO features for you in Umbraco. Think automatic meta fields, sitemap, robots.txt and much more. This allows you to just install the package without having to think and program this all in. Just think about the time you'll save! And SeoToolkit isn't closed off either. You can see the source code and improve it to your liking. Perhaps your company has specific needs and with open source you'll be able to deliver on top.
So how can SeoToolkit help your Umbraco SEO?
SeoToolkit is trusted by many websites, just because it is easy to add to your projects. It allows you to focus on the client instead of working on these repetitive things. Technical SEO is a very important topic for websites as it contains topic that have been standards across the industry. If you don't implement those, you're basically falling behind in the market and other websites could overtake you! SeoToolkit is here to help you with that. By integrating with Umbraco, it basically ensures all the best practices are followed and done for you.
Not just SeoToolkit
Ofcourse, you can say this about any package and I think it's important to note that SeoToolkit isn't the only package doing this. There are more packages like SeoChecker which also sets up all the best practices for you. However, most other packages (excluding SeoChecker) are not being maintained. They work for a few years but then the maintainer just stops maintaining them. This is a huge risk for you as website developer as it is a show stopper for being able to upgrade to newer Umbraco versions. You would either have to migrate everything over to another package, start from scratch or try and maintain the package yourself, the whole reason why you went with a package in the first place!
SeoToolkit has been around for 4 years now and has also won an Umbraco award due to work done on it. It has been open source for that time and been trusted by the community. It has lived through the hellish migration to the new backoffice, so it's safe to say that it'll be here to stay for quite some time.
